How do you change your avatar if you can't download the macromedia thingy?

I cant download the thing to get a picture so i thought i would just put a picture of something in there so i'm not like a mistery face lol.How do you change your avatar if you can't download the macromedia thingy?

I have the version of yahoo with chat (not yahoo messenger) and what I do is go to the chat screen and click on my picture which is a link to the avatar page.
